Honeymoon: Saturday

Honeymoon: Saturday

We woke up ready for a day in Memphis and a plan.  We were going to start our day off at Mud Island, head to Graceland for a picture, catch the Peabody ducks walking down the red carpet, and do a tour of the Gibson guitar factory before heading home that evening.

Oil change instead

We woke up a little late and decided to push Mud Island back and then drove to Graceland just to get a picture at the gates, however it was $5 to park.  We decided we’d make another trip and do the whole tour sometime and just wait on that too.  It was about this time the oil light began flashing on around corners.  We decided to fill up with gas and check the oil, but the sticker had fallen off so we didn’t know what kind of oil to get.  We drove down the street to a Jiffy Lube and spent the next hour getting to know the guys there and having our oil changed.  This whole series of events was a little discouraging (especially after having to miss the Peabody ducks)  We decided to fold and head for home.  You could say things just weren’t the same after New Orleans.

It was then that we began the 10 hour drive to Cedar Falls.  Unfortunately, our ten hour drive turned into an eleven hour drive when I decided to give Chris a break from driving around St. Louis.  Chris told me to follow the exits toward Chicago, however after taking a few I decided I didn’t actually want to go to Chicago, so I improvised.  I drove for about an hour before we ran out of highway.  It just ended – so I exited again.

We then turned on the GPS and Chris took over just in time to see a sign: “Welcome to St. Louis”  I had basically driven in a big circle around St. Louis for an hour and we were back in the city.  It would have been better had we just stopped for an hour to give Chris a break.  We laughed and we got back on track.

I tried at one stop along the way to get in the drivers seat as Chris was in the restroom, but he quickly made me return to the passengers side.  Personally, I think he’s a better driver because I’m navigating – he just doesn’t have my skills.  We’re a lovely team when in the correct roles.

We drove, without a hitch, back to Iowa

There’s nothing like ending a honeymoon back at your parents’ house/ your new in-laws’ house.
