20 Aug Honeymoon: Monday

Theater district, St. Louis
We woke up and went to Forest Park where we took pictures by a fountain and just spent some time seeing what there is to see as it was constructed as part of the World’s Fair. We drove through the theater district (up and down the streets a few times) to satisfy my husband, and we parked and walked to the arch where we took pictures in the park surrounding. I felt like those foreign tourists you see on every vacation you go on and know that you don’t look as weird as they do because they’re identifying themselves with their yellow scarves and the canon around their neck. Maybe it’s because Chris had a Canon around his neck, but he said he just looked like a photographer because he wore it across his chest and had perfected that leaning-backward-to-get-the-good-angle thing that photographers do.
We then hopped back in the car for a long trip to New Orleans. Where we once again had no idea where we were staying or when we would get there. We stopped when we wanted, ate when we wanted, took turns driving, listened to swamp people to raise excitement, and sang loudly to backstreet boys to keep us awake. Spotting dead armadillos as we got closer helped spur excitement too. Never did see a live one. One of the places we “wanted” to stop was Lambert’s Cafe.
Chris and I had both been there (individually) as children and if you’ve never been it’s something to experience. They come around to your table and dish you out things like fried okra -yum! and potatoes and they throw steaming hot rolls to you from across the room that you catch with your bare hands.
About an hour outside of New Orleans we began making a list of hotels from a travel guide and using Chris’ phone. We narrowed it down and I began calling and looking at
reviews. We noticed a common theme of cockroaches in all of the pictures and began looking up different types and if they could fly or not. Orkin was not helpful in settling my dream for a romantic get away. We decided to call Bourbon Orleans based on the fact that they had no pictures of cockroaches and a high rating even if that meant paying a little more. We knew it was their down season for tourism and they upgraded us because I told them it was our honeymoon. We got a room with a balcony overlooking the french quarter. To one end was bourbon street and on the other was St. Louis Cathedral. The valet took our car when we got there around midnight and we’d begin our adventure in the big easy in the morning.
