11 Jul CUPCAKES!!!!
So my endeavor for my day off from work today was to do a trial run of 2 of the cakes we’ll have for the wedding. The first is a traditional white wedding cake (think scratch’s wedding cupcake – those of you from cedar falls) The second is a whiskey cake which will be our tiered cake that we cut. They smell so good. I still need to find a recipe for the perfect frosting. I’ll keep you updated as to how they turn out. I just took this batch out of the oven and they look delish. Chris was over for lunch and is now pouting and begging me to bring him some at work.
The cupcakes are done baking! This really is an all day event when you only have a small cupcake pan. I’m now working on the frosting. I found a recipe, but we’ll see how it works since I don’t have a mixer either. Good thing I’ve been looking for an arm work out. We’re doing this old school.
The whiskey cakes are on your left and the white wedding cakes are on the right. I thought it was interesting how the whiskey batter became like dough and how it cracked like bread on top. I’m sure it had to do with the whiskey as that is the only difference between the mixtures. It must be something with the fermentation of whatever happens when you make whiskey. Also, I think i forgot to add a bit of oil. It’s hard to convert measurements when all you have is a measuring cup and a 1/4 teaspoon. Math is not my strong suit, but it’s been good for me. The adventure is not over until we try them tonight.
In other news: Cooking always makes me hungry. So naturally I go to the fridge to get some MINI carrots (the mini is important here) and what do I find? a HUGE carrot in my minis. How exciting! take a look:
Alright, back to the cooking: My recipe for frosting is not working. It may be the lack of a proper mixer. (yes, my arm is very tired) or it may be because I used fake butter that was not salted when the recipe pretty much said not to do that or weird stuff would happen. Guess what? Weird stuff is happening to my frosting.
We’ll try again later. It’s cooling now. I’m not sure what I think that will do, but we’ll find out. Also, just in case: I happen to have a can of frosting for now and we’ll try a different recipe later!
